“He’ll be a big asset for Newcastle” – Pundit raves about £12million signing

Newcastle have been one of the surprise packages of the 2017-18 Premier League campaign, as many predicted they would struggle upon securing promotion to the topflight.

Less than £37million was spent over the summer in the acquisition of new players, but manager Rafa Benitez has been able to bring out the best of his squad.

Of the 6 signings made, ex-Norwich City midfielder Jacob Murphy cost the most – £12million.

However, he has been the most underwhelming of the lot, playing just 79 minutes of league football – out of a possible 810.

Nevertheless, Murphy remains a quality player, and considering the forms of Matt Ritchie and Christian Atsu, it’s understandable why he has seen little action.

Newcastle United editor for the Chronicle, Journal and Sunday Sun Mark Douglas, believes that it’s only a matter of time before the 22-year-old midfielder forces himself into Benitez’s first team plans.

Douglas recently tweeted: “Have seen & heard enough about @JacobMurphy95 to suggest he’ll be a big asset for #nufc . Time will come.”

Having done enough in recent months to convince Rafa into forking out such amount on him, Murphy’s quality can’t be questioned, and should he finally hit the ground running, he could prove to be one of the Spaniard’s best buys at Newcastle.
