Swansea skipper Britton hands Mourinho team selection advice

Swansea captain Leon Britton believes that Jesse Lingard must be allowed to start for Manchester United when they face off against Tottenham in a Premier League encounter this weekend.

Britton made the comment while working as a pundit for Sky Sports and he watched his side fall to a 2-0 defeat in a Carabao Cup encounter on Tuesday with Lingard scoring a brace to seal victory for his side.

Lingard was given a chance during United’s 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield during the weekend and though he was not particularly impressive on the day, Britton believes that he deserves another chance against Spurs.

He said: “I don’t see why not, “If he’s producing form like we’ve seen tonight, I don’t see any reason (not to play him).

“It’s the competition, you’re talking about (Juan) Mata, (Henrikh) Mkhitaryan, (Marcus) Rashford, (Anthony) Martial, (Romelu) Lukaku. They’ve got so many attacking players, top, top players. It’s very difficult for him to break through.

“On a performance like tonight, he’s given the manager a lot of food for thought. I’m sure in the game on the weekend, in the Premier League a big one, he’ll be pushing to start in that one.”
