Newcastle United reportedly looking at untapped and unpopular talents in the Bundesliga

Newcastle signed Spain youth international midfielder Mikel Merino from Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan during the summer transfer window, but quickly activated the clause to make the switch permanent following his impressive start to life at Saint James’ Park.

Having been impressed by the youngster, Newcastle are said to be looking around the Bundesliga for such crops of talents that continue to go under the radar of the big clubs.

The Magpies parted with just £7million for the signature of Merino, and the deal is one of the shrewdest done in the Premier League over the summer.

The German league – currently rated 4th behind the La Liga, EPL and Serie A by UEFA, like other top leagues has a lot of untapped qualities, and with Newcastle scouts monitoring a lot of players there, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if most of the club’s January targets emerge from the Bundesliga.

Having surprisingly started their league campaign since returning from relegation on an impressive note, the Toons know only quality in depth will help them sustain momentum, and it’s expected they add more to the squad over the winter transfer window.
