Leeds reportedly could return for summer striking target in January

According to German news outlet Kreiszeitung (via SportWitness), Leeds United had Werder Bremen striker Aron Johannsson on their transfer wish list during the summer transfer window, and could still return for him come winter.

Having already seen the Peacocks sign their goalie Felix Wiedwald, the Bundesliga outfit might have blocked the move for Johannsson, with Leeds moving on to Hamburg’s Pierre-Michel Lasogga when a deal couldn’t be struck.

However, Bremen are looking to finally let the Iceland-born U.S international go after his unimpressive form continued this term.

Johannsson arrived Germany from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2015 having scored 29 Eredivisie goals in 58 appearances.

However, frequent injury layoffs and an unconvincing form have limited him to just 16 Bundesliga games.

The 26-year-old has been demoted to Bremen’s reserves, and it remains to be seen if Leeds still retain a keen interest in him.

Apart from Lasogga, fellow summer arrivals Jay-Roy Grot, Caleb Ekuban, Pawel Cibicki and wideman Kemar Roofe are all able to provide striking services for Leeds, and going for a struggling Johannsson doesn’t seem like a great idea.
