Rangers’ defender Alves says this ex-Real Madrid star would enjoy the SPL

Rangers defender Bruno Alves has said that former Real Madrid star and Portugal national team player Pepe could love to play in the Scottish Premiership.

The 35 year old Alves joined Rangers ahead of this season and while he is enjoying life in Scotland, he also feels that Pepe is another such player who will enjoy the type of football that is played in Scotland.

Pepe left Madrid at the end of last season following a ten year spell with the Spanish giants and is now on the books of Turkish outfit Besiktas. At 34, he could still have a few years left in him and it remains to be seen if he will choose Scotland as his next destination.

Whils talking about his relationship with fellow Portugal stars, Alves said: “Of course. I speak to them all the time about the clubs I’ve been at, especially at this moment. Cristiano has played in Manchester so he knows about Scottish football and Rangers. Pepe also played against Rangers before when we were in the same team [at Porto].

“Everybody knows about football here in Scotland. I spoke about how intense the game is here, and how physical it is. Pepe is like ‘my style is also liking confrontations’. Maybe it’s a place one day he can come to play.

“He’d enjoy it because he’s a strong character. He likes to fight for every ball and he has the attitude that fits here.”
