Leeds United finally got back to winning ways after 3 consecutive losses following an emphatic 3-nil victory over Bristol City on Saturday, and many are already wondering if it wouldn’t be a one-off achievement.
Despite massive squad changes during the last transfer window, manager Thomas Christiansen is expected to even bolster his side in January, and former Leeds boss Neil Redfearn has a perfect recommendation for the club.
As per the 3-time Whites caretaker manager, Preston North End striker Jordan Hugill would represent a fine addition capable of firing the side to the Premier League during the conclusive half of the campaign.
While temporary summer signing Pierre-Michel Lasogga has done fairly well filling the shoes of the departed Chris Wood, Redfearn believes his opposite number at Deepdale is more suitable to Leeds given his mobility and Championship-experience.
“He’s a good player and probably bit more mobile than [Pierre-Michel] Lasogga”, Redfearn said on Radio Yorkshire (via Inside Football).
“He’s that type – big strong centre forward and he is in a good vein of form at this moment in time and probably understands the level a bit more.
“That’s no slant on the players Leeds have brought in, but they haven’t played at this level.
“He would be a good signing for Leeds, no doubt.”
Hugill has 5 league goals in 13 games to his name already this term, and is understood to be keen on changing clubs having submitted a transfer request in the summer window.
Despite having a hand in 7 goals (4 goals and 3 assists) in as many league games, Christiansen has demanded more from Lasogga, claiming post-game: “I had my talk to him. I expected more from him in the last games, there hasn’t been enough – what he gave us, especially keeping the ball.
“About the goal, I don’t care. It’s good, of course, that he scored but what we need is the continuity in the game when we play the long pass, it’s not coming back immediately but we can keep it and we can have the possibility to take the second ball and we can arrive with more players.”
While Hugill has a year and half left on his current deal, it’s hard to see Preston willing to listen to offers for their man midway through the campaign.
Lasogga, despite a drought during Leeds’ poor run, has the potential to hit peak form going forward in the campaign, and he represents the ideal man to help the club replace Wood’s goals.
