Liverpool are interested in signing Schalke midfielder and German international Leon Goretzka in the near future, according to the Metro.
Goretzka, 22, has established himself as one of the main players for Schalke as well as the German national team in recent times and he has consistently delivered some fantastic performances for the Royal Blues as well as for Die Mannschaft.
Despite his importance, the young midfielder set to be out of contract at Schalke at the end of the current season and with his contract situation being left unresolved, many have questioned his long term future with the Bundesliga side.
Therefore interest in the 22-year-old is high at the moment with some of the top teams in Europe such as Liverpool keeping an eye on the talented midfielder and this has increased the difficulty for Schalke to convince the player to extend his stay in Germany.
Now according to the Metro, Liverpool are said to be looking to ramp up their pursuit to sign Goretzka next summer or indeed during the upcoming January transfer window.
It is believed that the Schalke board is prepared to make Goretzka the best paid player in the club in order to keep him at Veltins-Arena but with teams in the Premier League like Liverpool able to pay their players ridiculous amount of salary, it will be interesting to see if the German side can indeed keep hold of their prized asset.
