Newcastle United reportedly step up interest in 20-goals-in-33-games striker for January move

According to talkSPORT, Newcastle have made signing £18million-rated Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun in January their topmost priority.

The Magpies have regularly scouted the Turkey international this season, and also had one of their scouts at last Friday’s game between Besiktas and Genclerbirligi.

Tosun’s side ended up losing 2-1, with the striker’s goal amounting to nothing in terms of points.

Newcastle aren’t alone in the pursuit of the 26-year-old hitman who bagged 20 goals in 33 Super Lig games last term.

Tottenham and Crystal Palace are also keen on Tosun, but with a new ownership likely to be in place at St. James’ Park in January, the Toons remain in prime position to land their man.

Newcastle are targeting a top 10 finish this season having started the campaign brightly, and will need a quality striker to fire them towards their ambitions during the second half of 2017-18.

Tosun ticks all the boxes, and should the new owners show great ambition, the club could be regular top 8 challengers going forward.
