As per the Mirror, Newcastle are in a 4-club battle for the signature of Sheffield United whizkid David Brooks, with Liverpool, Arsenal and West Ham also interested in the 20-year-old Welsh midfielder.
The Anfield outfit are said to be leading the race, as manager Jurgen Klopp – a keen admirer of the youngster, is said to be readying a £10million January bid.
Brooks is highly rated by the Championship side and the Welsh senior national team, with the latter handing him a call-up during the last international break for their World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and the Republic of Ireland.
Newcastle are looking to further bolster their squad ahead of establishing themselves as a force to reckon with in the topflight, and have kept tabs on Brooks since the start of the season.
The midfielder has established himself in Sheffield’s senior team since debuting for the under-23’s in an EFL Cup clash against Leicester City 14 months ago.
Brooks has featured 10 times in the Championship this season, assisting twice.
Blades boss Chris Wilder has claimed his rising star player isn’t for sale, though, as he is set to play an integral part in the club’s bid to win promotion back to the Premier League after an absence of 11 seasons.
