Ex-England international believes Everton is best suited for Celtic star

Celtic sensation Kieran Tierney has often been linked with a big move to the top Premier League clubs, with Manchester United the most mentioned suitors.

The 20-year-old left-back has established himself as a starter for both club and country, but ex-Red Devils Owen Hargreaves is of the opinion that a move to any of the EPL big wigs could put the career of the youngster in jeopardy.

Rather than go become a squad player at a top club at this stage of his young career, Hargreaves believes Everton is a perfect next-step for Tierney.

The ex-England international turned pundit told Scottish Sun: “Tierney will play somewhere big. But I’m not sure leaving Celtic just to go to a big club is the answer for him.

“It’s maybe not the right way to go about it. You look at Patrick Roberts leaving Manchester City to sign for Celtic. He’s a City player and on paper that’s great, but he hasn’t played for them. He’s had to go to Celtic to get games.

“As young and as good as these guys are, it’s all about getting an opportunity to play. Tierney might be better looking at Everton or somewhere like that.”

The Celtic academy graduate has 4 years on his current deal at Parkhead, but it’s hard to see him remain beyond next summer, with interests for his signature bound to grow more as the season continues.

As Hargreaves advises, a place like Everton or West Ham will be perfect for Tierney’s growth, and should he prove himself after few seasons, he would have acquired the experience needed to excel at a side like United.
