West Ham appeared to have been boosted by reports that out-of-favour Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere was keen on a London Stadium switch in January.
The England international is yet to play Premier League football this season, and with the World Cup approaching, it was said he was looking to join the Hammers in order to boost his chances of making England’s Russia 2018 squad.
However, Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger is now planning on handing Wilshere a 4-year contract extension.
As per the Mirror, with the Arsenal future of Santi Cazorla hanging in the balance, the French boss is looking to Wilshere as the Spaniard’s permanent replacement in the first team.
Apparently, the 25-year-old has done enough to convince Wenger in the Carabao Cup and the Europa League games, and could be handed a new deal sooner than later.
West Ham now have to look elsewhere for that midfield creativity they identified and desired in Wilshere over the summer.
A season-long loan deal was blocked by Arsenal’s demands, and it appears a January move won’t be possible either.
