This Wednesday, October 18, 2017 (7:00 PM Pacific) Club America will host Chivas of Guadalajara at the Estadio Azteca for a game in the 10th round of matches in the Liga MX Apertura 2017. Both teams are living very distinct moments but that does not take anything away from this game as the game is the biggest rivalry in Mexican soccer and one of the biggest rivalries in the world of sports.
Club America has been one of the best teams in the Liga MX, currently second with 23 points. Las Aguilas are four points behind first-place Monterrey but it seems unlikely that the Mexico City team will catch up to Los Rayados. Miguel Herrera’s men have two consecutive victories, recently coming off a dominant 3-1 win against Cruz Azul away from home.
Colombian midfielder Mateus Uribe will be a player to watch in this game as he has now scored in two consecutive games and will have plenty of momentum heading into this Clasico Nacional. Club America should easily win this game on paper but the magnitude of the game could make it a very complicated game for the home team.
Chivas of Guadalajara has been the most disappointing team in this Apertura 2017, currently in 16th with only nine points. Los Rojiblancos are officially eliminated from making the playoffs coming off three consecutive losses, most recently a 2-1 loss against Monarcas Morelia at home. Arguably the best player on the team Rodolfo Pizarro received a red card and will not be available in this game which could prove to be a tremendous blow heading into this match.
Recent form is almost irrelevant in this game as the monumental stakes of the game could propel Chivas to a respectable performance. The game should be the best in this round of matches in the Liga MX and there is no clear winner heading into it even with Club America in much better form.
