Joey Barton has told the Alan Brazil Sports breakfast that he cannot see Rafa Benitez replacing Ronald Koeman as Everton manager.
Koeman is under increased pressure as the Toffees have so far been playing a poor brand of football and have only taken eight points from their opening eight games in the League this season.
Should they fail to rectify things soon, they could face the possibility of having to fight off relegation this season.
According to a recent report published by the Sun, Benitez has been linked as a possible replacement for Koeman.
Barton however feels that it is unlikely that Benitez would be open to an offer considering his links with Liverpool combined with the job he is doing at the Magpies.
He said: “Yeah, I don’t know about that. He is based in The Wirral, so it would maybe logistically fit for him but I think the Toon Army wouldn’t be too happy about that.
“They’d be saying, ‘why would you leave Newcastle for Everton?’ It would interrupt his status as a Liverpool icon, Rafa, because winning the European Cup at Liverpool, he’s going to be in their history for a long time so, do I see it happening? Probably not.”
