Paul Ince explains why Liverpool absolutely have to beat Manchester United

Football pundit Paul Ince has said that Liverpool need to beat Manchester United on Saturday if they wish to be considered as Premier League title contenders this season.

After several games, the Reds have been in frustrating form and are already several points adrift of the Red Devils, who are in second position on the League standings with 19 points behind leaders Manchester City only on goal difference.

Liverpool’s defending in particular, this season has been woeful and if they are once again sloppy on Saturday, they are likely to be punished by the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

Ince feels that Jurgen Klopp’s men cannot afford to lose this game if they wish to be title contenders. Writing in his column for Paddy Power, he stated as reported by Goal: “Klopp hasn’t found the right formula for his team yet and, after this length of time at the club, with the players he has, he really should have.

“This game is United’s first acid test. They’ve been demolishing teams and, no disrespect to the others, but this is a big step up. To go to Anfield is different gravy, this is where they’ll truly be tested for the first time this season. United have to prove they really are title contenders.”
