Match Preview
Honduras is currently fifth with 10 points but even a win in this game is unlikely to secure a direct spot to the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Los Catrachos are coming from two impressive draws in this hexagonal phase, first a 1-1 draw against the United States at home, then a 1-1 draw against Costa Rica away from home.
Romell Quioto will be one of the main players to watch for Honduras in this game as the Houston Dynamo man has already scored three goals in these qualifiers. The home-field advantage is a huge plus for the Central American team but it may not be enough to get past the best team in the CONCACAF region, Mexico.
Mexico is clearly the top team in this CONCACAF region in both the quality of its players and in the performance it has put in these qualifiers. El Tri is currently in first-place with 21 points and should not have many complications in this game. Juan Carlos Osorio will be without two of his best players, Javier Hernandez and Hirving Lozano but it should still not play a huge factor in this game.
The last time these two teams met in the Qualifiers, Mexico walked away with a very comfortable 3-0 win at home and this game could hold a similar result. The game should be a very hard-fought and intense encounter with the urgency of the three points for Honduras.
