Former Liverpool defender Stephane Henchoz has blasted his former club and claimed that they will not finish in the top four this season.
The Reds have begun the season in poor after winning just one of their past several games in all competitions. They also currently occupy seventh position on the Premier League standings and are already several points adrift of the Manchester clubs who are at the top of the standings.
Henchoz was part of a successful Liverpool side that won the UEFA Cup, League Cup and FA Cup in 2001. The side tasted success that season due to the solid defensive partnership that was shared by Henchoz, Jamie Carragher and Markus Babbel.
Henchoz is not a fan of the current Liverpool defence though and blasted the side, saying, “It was a big problem last season and everybody was hoping they could solve the problem.
“I think they definitely should buy somebody. At least one or two centre-backs, they tried [Virgil] Van Dijk, but they couldn’t make it happen.
“I don’t know. It seems that it is always the same mistakes, set pieces, they are very weak, very poor. The way it is at the moment, they have absolutely no chance of competing for the title.
“They would be more than happy to finish in the top four, but if they carry on the way they are conceding goals, I can’t see them finishing in the top four unfortunately.”
