Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has admitted that he was close to joining Everton during the summer.
Following the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, Ronald Koeman was eyeing a new experienced striker to bring to his side and to replace the Belgian and Lukaku was said to be on top of his wish list.
Reports have also stated that Giroud opted to remain with Arsenal due to pressure from his wife. The Frenchman has since confirmed that there was interest from Everton but did not confirm if he opted to remain at the Emirates Stadium due to pressure from his wife.
He said, “I had the opportunity to leave [Arsenal]. I was very close to another English club, Everton. But I think I made the best choice.”
Everton eventually did not find a replacement for Giroud and they are clearly struggling so far this season after only picking up several points from their opening several games. It remains to be seen if they will aim to recruit Giroud once again in January.
