Sunderland goalkeeper Jason Steele has said that the return of Duncan Watmore has given the team a lift.

The 23 year old Watmore had been out of action for nine months after suffering a serious knee injury but made his return on the bench during the Black Cats 2-2 draw with Preston North End before the international break.

The Black Cats are in need of serious motivation as they are currently a club in a bad situation. The Black Cats currently lie second last on the Championship standings and will need to aim to fight for survival this season.

Steele, who is expected to start for Sunderland when they take on Queens Park Rangers in the Championship after the international break, has claimed that the return of Watmore has given the team a lift.

He said, “As soon as Duncan came on, it gave everyone a massive lift. Hopefully, he can carry that on over the next few weeks and months, and build on his confidence and fitness.

“Even in training, you can see what an asset he is going to be to us. We all know pace is a massive part of the game now, and having somebody so direct and willing to chase lost causes, who makes clever runs, is going to be massive for us over the next few games. Hopefully, he stays fit, and fingers crossed he can score a few goals and boost everyone.”
