‘Best defender in the world’ – Fans hail Newcastle man after splendid WCQ outing

Deandre Yedlin

The United States of America are on the verge of sealing World Cup qualification following Friday’s 4-nil victory over Panama.

A win over Trinidad & Tobago on Tuesday will guarantee the USMNT a place at Russia 2018, and that seems a given considering the late resurgence of every member of the team’s starting XI.

While Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic remains the side’s poster boy and standout star, Newcastle right-back DeAndre Yedlin was also influential as United States made mincemeat of Panama.

The 24-year-old played the full game and replicated his form for club since their return to the topflight for the North American side.

The former Tottenham man has improved immensely since establishing himself as the undisputed starter at the position for the Magpies, and USA are reaping the rewards.

Yedlin’s performance against Panama was bettered by only Pulisic’s, and USA and Newcastle fans on Twitter couldn’t help but rave about him.
