Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has admitted he could sign a left-back in January in order to help provide cover and competition for the currently injured Paul Dummett.
The defender has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury during the opening match of the season, and the likes of Chancel Mbemba, Jesus Gamez and Javier Manquillo have filled in at the position thus far.

The Chelsea youngster was targeted as a temporary option during the summer transfer window, and is yet to make his Premier League bow for the Blues this term.
The Brazilian will no doubt be willing to go on loan for the remainder of the season in January, and Newcastle could return for the versatile and utility player with a tangible bid.
Matt Targett
The Southampton man is currently the 3rd-choice left-back at the Saint Mary’s, and has yet to play league football this season.
Newcastle dropped interest in a loan deal for the English youngster after the Saints held out for a significant fee, but they are likely to have shifted the goal post, and he remains a fine option for the Magpies.

Newcastle reportedly came close to landing the Independiente left-back during the summer transfer.
