West Ham defender Winston Reid has revealed that Chris Wood deserved an opportunity to play in the Premier League based on his performances for Leeds United during recent years.
Wood finished as Championship top goal scorer last season after netting 25 times. Despite this, Leeds failed to win a place in the promotion playoffs and ended up finishing in seventh place.
The performances of Wood attracted interest from the Premier League and he eventually ended up moving to Burnley during the summer for a fee of £15 million. Thus far, the striker has played several times for the Clarets, scoring three goals and setting up one.
Reid who is international team-mates with Wood in the New Zealand national team revealed that he was happy that his fellow countryman finally got an opportunity to play in the Premier League.
He said, “I’m very pleased. He’s worked really hard the last couple of years, his performances have been getting better and better and he deserves this.”
