Pundit explains that Everton have “lost their way”

Football pundit Danny Higginbottom has claimed that Everton have “lost their way” this season. Many people expected the Toffees to challenge for a top four position this season after they invested heavily on bolstering their side during the summer transfer window.

However none of their new arrivals have really looked exceptional and the club currently sit in 16th place on the Premier League standings after taking just several points from their opening seven games.

One of the problems which Higginbottom has noted is that the Merseyside club do not have enough players who can run behind the defence.

He added that opposition teams are aware of this and using it to their advantage citing the teams weekend defeat against Burnley where despite having 63% of ball possession, the Toffees lost.

He said, “Everton have plenty of good players, especially in the No 10 role. But they have lost their way recently. They don’t have enough players who are stretching the opposition or running in behind the defence. Too many of their players are coming towards the ball. Everything is so compact.

“Teams, in their preparations, know that nobody will run behind them, so they can press up and squeeze Everton in their own half.”
