Manager Rafa Benitez has denied any knowledge over the reports linking Newcastle with potential new investors, according to Sky Sports.
When asked after Newcastle’s recent 1-1 draw against Liverpool on potential new investors at St. James’ Park, Benitez was tight lipped on the subject saying he was on dark over the news.
Newcastle have been in need of new investment, as marked by their inability to sign main targets in recent seasons due to the lack of available funds.
This means that the recent news of a takeover of the club from current owner Mike Ashley, have given Newcastle fans cause for celebrations as they look to consolidate their position in the Premier League.
When asked about the situation though, Benitez said, “I could not hear anything during the 90 minutes, I was just concentrating on the nose and [Philippe] Coutinho and Co!
Ashley acquired majority stakes at Newcastle in 2007 and has seen some major highs and lows at the club during his time there. He has overseen a period where Newcastle challenged for a top-4 position while also experiencing relegation twice.
With extraordinary inflation in the football market, it looks like Ashley will not be able to invest on the club on his own and it has been reported that the Newcastle owner has welcomed new investors to help lead the club forward.
