Joey Barton has blasted Everton for signing Davy Klaassen during the summer. There were heavy expectations on the Dutchman to deliver after he arrived at the club for £16 million from Ajax, however he has so far failed to settle into life at Goodison Park.
The 24 year old did not even manage to make the substitutes bench on for Everton’s Premier League encounter on Sunday against Burnley which indicates how fast he has slipped down the pecking order at the club.
Klaassen is not the only player who Barton has doubts about. He is also skeptical regarding whether Gylfi Sigurdsson will be able to deliver following his arrival from Swansea during the transfer window.
The former Newcastle star, Barton said, “Klaassen looks a dud. Sigurdsson hasn’t hit the ground running, not much to my surprise.
“I never consider him that calibre of player. I think he needs to be a big player in a small team, but at Everton the team isn’t built around him so he can’t showcase the talent.”
