Making the playoffs is almost impossible now for the Mexico City team even if it were to win its last few games. Los Felinos have not won in its last six games and only have one point from four games under manager Sergio Egea. The team will not contend in this season and must now look to make serious changes after the Apertura competition wraps up.
Cruz Azul lost its first game in the Apertura 2017 in its last game, falling 4-1 against Pachuca away from home. Despite Los Celestes being undefeated for a good while in this tournament, the team does not look to be serious contenders for the title.
The attack is potent with players like Edgar Mendez, Felipe Mora and Angel Mena but the defense is inconsistent and has proven to be a liability for the team. La Maquina should be able to win this game against an inconsistent Pumas UNAM side but it could prove to be a more complicated game than expected away from home.
