Legend explains why Joe Hart has to be dropped by England

English goalkeeping legend Peter Shilton has suggested that Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate should overlook Joe Hart and give the younger goalkeepers a chance during the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Lithuania.

After being frozen out of Manchester City’s first team plans ahead of last season, Hart spent the season on loan with Torino in Italy. He returned to England this summer and began a season long loan with West Ham.

He has not managed to deliver quality performances for the Hammers and the East London club have lost four out of their several matches in the Premier League thus far.

Many have called for Pickford to be replaced between the sticks by either Jack Butland, Fraser Forster, Tom Heaton or Jordan Pickford.

Shilton feels that the time is right for a change and said, “Joe was a bit unfairly treated at Manchester City because the manager wanted a certain type of sweeper keeper.

“To me a goalkeeper is about keeping the ball out the net, organising your defence, taking responsibility, showing confidence, making saves at the right time and making few mistakes.’

“Don’t get me wrong I’m not knocking Joe but at some point maybe somebody’s going to be a bit better than him. With Joe and maybe Tom Heaton and Fraser Foster, what you see is probably what you get.

“Butland has not really had a chance to probe himself because of injury. But I like him and until he and others get in the England team, you never know how they will handle the pressure.”
