Steven Gerrard explains why star might leave Chelsea

Eden Hazard

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has said that the performance of Eden Hazard against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League this week could spark interest from the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Gerrard also added that he can see Hazard being tempted to join one of the Spanish giants in a similar way to how Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho hoped to join Barcelona this summer.

He said, “I think performances like that in this competition, if you keep producing them on a regular basis, I mean Frank (Lampard) won’t thank me for this or the Chelsea fans, but the likes of your Real Madrids and Barcelonas come knocking.

“Liverpool have got a similar problem with (Philippe) Coutinho. It’s performances like that when the real big hitters come.”

Chelsea seem to be aware that Hazard may attract interest from other clubs and according to reports, could be set to hand him a new £300,000-a-week contract. It will be very difficult to see the Belgian superstar turning down such a contract.
