Manchester United goalkeeping legend Peter Schmeichel has drawn comparisons between Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius and German World Cup winning keeper Manuel Neuer.
The 24-year-old Karius arrived at Anfield during the summer of 2016 in order to provide competition and cover for first choice Simon Mignolet.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has so far opted to rotate Mignolet and Karius this season which illustrates that he is not totally confident in the ability of Mignolet, who has proven to be inconsistent.
Though Schmeichel feels that Mignolet has improved, he does feel that Karius has been used inconsistently and explained, “I agree that the goalkeeping situation is very confusing, he brought Karius in – who comes in with a reputation of being very very close in quality to Neuer, he’s just behind him – no one can beat Neuer but this guy is just behind him.
“He plays a few games doesn’t play well and he has to go back to Mignolet, who is actually playing okay. I think he (Mignolet) has improved. I think the knocks he has taken in his career is making him better goalkeeper, but he is not that guy who actually controls the back four.”
