Why Leeds should not sign 21-goals-in-40-Championship-games striker in January

As per Football Whispers, Liverpool striker Danny Ings is the 3rd likeliest Elland Road arrival in the January window, with Newcastle’s Dwight Gayle and Gamba Osaka midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi 2nd and most likeliest respectively.

Considering work permit issues for the Japanese, and the Magpies’ high probability of likely unwilling to let their striker leave, the former Burnley goalmachine is Leeds’ most realistic target.

However, the Whites must avoid Ings like a plague due to a couple of reasons.

The last time the 25-year-old English striker, who scored 21 goals in Burnley’s last Championship campaign and 11 upon their return to the topflight, managed to stay fit for more than 6 months on a stretch was in 2015.

2 career-altering knee injuries have seen his progress at Liverpool stagnate, limiting him to only 17 minutes of senior team football in the last 11 months.

While Ings is very much capable of hitting his once-blazing form in front of goal should he be afforded a long run of playing minutes, Leeds can’t afford to take a gamble on their promotion ambitions by adding him to their ranks in the short-term.

Besides, there isn’t any assurance that the injury woes of the 1-capped England international are now behind him, so a fit striker with no history of long-term injuries is a better-by-far option for Leeds United.
