Scottish legend has criticized Celtic for summer transfer debacle

David Provan has criticized Celtic and said that the club should have signed a central defender during the summer transfer window.

Due to injuries, the Hoops had to employ the inexperienced 18-year-old Anthony Ralston during their game against PSG in the Champions League two weeks ago.

This was not an ideal situation as the youngster had to face off against the likes of Neymar and EdinsonCavani despite lacking in experience. Despite lacking big match experience, the Scotland under 21 churned out a solid performance but could not prevent a 5-0 defeat for his side.

Provan has now stated his belief that Brendan Rodgers’ side should have signed a defender during the summer by saying, “After Rodgers led Celtic into the Champions League group stage, while hoovering up all domestic prize money, the Hoops now have £18m burning a hole in their bank account.

“It makes me wonder why an untried 18-year-old was lining up for Celtic against PSG recently. No harm to Anthony Ralston. Hopefully, he’s a first-team regular of the future and he looks the part.

“But putting him in against Neymar? That was unfair on the kid and down to Brendan’s failure to sign a proper centre-back in the transfer window.”
