Newcastle want to make up for little business done during the summer transfer market by January, and have been scouting various targets ahead of the winter window.
Magpies’ talent spotters are said to have watched Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Valon Berisha during the Austrian’s club Europa League clash against Vitoria de Guimaraes last month, while summer target and Galatasaray winger Gary Rodrigues was watched in August – in a Super Lig game versus Osmanlispor FK.
Newcastle saw a £6 million bid for the latter, a 26-year-old Cape Verde international, knocked back during the last transfer, but will now make another improved bid in January in order to convince the Turkish giants into selling.
Rodrigues has been in stunning form for Galatasaray since arriving from PAOK FC in January for £3 million.
The Dutch-born former ADO Den Haag, Levski Sofia and Elche wideman has 3 assists in 5 league games this term for the Super Lig current leaders.
His dribbling and crossing ability could help add needed creativity to the Magpies’ side if signed.

On the other hand, Newcastle aren’t the only team keen on Salzburg’s Berisha, as Arsenal, Leicester City, West Ham, West Brom and Watford are all monitoring the 24-year-old Kosovo international winger.
Landing him in January or next summer could be much harder than getting Rodrigues, but a double swoop on the duo would immensely boost the Newcastle attacking ranks.
