Why West Ham shouldn’t hesitate to cash-in on £20million man in January

Andrew Ayew

As per Italian Portal tuttormercatto (via Ghana Soccer Net), Inter Milan are keen on luring West Ham forward Andre Ayew away from London Stadium in January, and should they bring a tangible offer to the table, the Hammers shouldn’t hesitate to let the Ghanaian go.

Since arriving from Swansea for £20.5million last summer, Ayew has been underwhelming to say the least, and it came as no surprise when manager Slaven Bilic decided to splash a club-record £25million on another winger Marko Arnautović during the last transfer window.

While the injury he picked up in his Premier League bow for West Ham – a 2-1 loss to Chelsea, seemingly prevented him from replicating his Liberty Stadium form last term, 7 goals in 31 league appearances have been below par a return.

Despite being fit this season, Ayew has been restricted to just 3 starts. Should the trio of Andy Carroll, Manuel Lanzini and Michail Antonio manage to stay fit, it means the former Marseille man will find behind 4 wingers, including a makeshift Javier Hernandez, for first-team selection.

Ayew can’t be considered as surplus to requirements, as he’s a quality player, but the attack isn’t a department West Ham are lacking depth at the moment, and it wouldn’t hurt them if they sell him to provide funds for a midfield lacking in quality.
