Joey Barton has blasted Liverpool and revealed that he thinks that the club are playing with the wrong attitude and have a Championship defence.
The weak defence of the Reds has already been clearly exposed this season and so far they have conceded 18 goals from just ten games in all competitions.
The Reds do have a world class attack boasting the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane.
However their defence is clearly letting them down and should Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan and Joe Gomez not all step up their game soon, the club could seriously struggle to challenge for major silverware.
Barton has now slammed the club’s defence saying, “Liverpool are great going forward, they’ve got a Champions League attack, but they’ve got a Championship defence. If you’ve going to build a side to challenge the big clubs in this league then you’ve got to be able to defend.
“Klopp’s statement that he can write a book on defending… anyone can write a book on defending! We can sit here and go through footage and draw out how we’d perfectly like to defend a set-play – it’s easy to do that – but defending is all about attitude and I don’t think he’s bought players who have the right attitude towards defending.”
