West Ham star reveals his willingness to improve this key area of his game

West Ham came close to completing what would have been a great comeback against Tottenham on Saturday. The Hammers ended up needing a goal to draw level after earlier going down 3-nil.

Senegalese international midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate scored the hosts’ 2nd in the all-London encounter, and now has eyes firmly fixed on helping the team in the final third the more.

The strike was the 27-year-old’s first for the season, and his 11th league goal since arriving from Anderlecht 3 summers ago.

The defensive midfielder managed just a league goal last term, in all his 31 appearances, but is now looking to be more prolific in front of goal going forward, having scored 9 in his first 65 games over 2 campaigns.

Kouyate revealed he wants to learn how to maximize the few goal-scoring opportunities that come his way, and did tell West Ham’s official website post-match: “I spoke with some friends on Saturday and they said ‘You have one or two chances to score in every game, so you need to stay focused and work and take your time’ and I got my first goal. Hopefully there will be many more coming in the future.”

West Ham currently sit in the drop zone following their 4th loss of a poor campaign that has seen win just 1 game.
