Ex-Leeds boss believes £1.5million man can be a game changer for Christiansen

Leeds United EFL Cup clash against Burnley on Tuesday provided a couple of fringe players an opportunity to make claims for more playing time.

Quiet everyone impressed in the victory against the Premier League side, including French forward Hadi Sacko.

The 23-year-old winger has just 5 Championship minutes to his name this term, but did put in a terrific performance against Burnley upon entering after an hour.

Sacko, who was permanently signed from Sporting Lisbon for £1.5million in July after a successful loan deal, opened the scoring for Leeds.

While it remains to be seen if the winger who made 38 league appearances last term will be able to force himself into manager Thomas Christiansen’s starting XI, former Whites boss Neil Redfearn reckons his pace could give the team’s attack a new dimension.

He also believes Sacko could prove to be a game-changer from time to time as a result.

On Radio Yorkshire’s Yorkshire Football Show, Redfearn weighed in his thoughts when asked if the former French international could land himself a starting spot, saying: “Don’t know whether he deserves a place or not but he has done himself a world of good.

“I thought he was excellent when he came on and think he has been a bit up and down this season.

“He is still young but I think he didn’t do himself in favours as it looked like he was sulking at Bolton [on the opening day] and his introduction was a bit of a mess.

“The advent of him coming on and [Pablo] Hernandez coming on gives Leeds fresh impetus as it looked a little stale going forward.

“That sort of blistering pace frightens defenders to death and he can change a game.”
