Everton dealt blow as 14-goals-in-31-games striking target extends contract with his club

Everton’s chances of landing Real Sociedad Brazilian striker Willian Jose have taken a hit, as the 25-year-old has signed a new deal that ties him down to Anoeta until 2022.

The Toffees were routinely linked the £28million-rated former São Paulo man all summer as they sought a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, but they had to settle for former Malaga striker Sandro Ramirez instead.

Everton appear to still be in dire need of a sharp shooter after failing to score in their last 4 games, and could still be tempted to return for Jose.

With a new deal now in place for the former Brazil youth international, the Merseysiders will have to pay through their nose to have a chance.

Jose has 14 goals in 32 La Liga games for Sociedad till date, with 2 coming in 4 this term.

His quality speaks volume, with Barcelona also keen to land him during the summer transfer.

In the EPL, Newcastle and West Ham also registered interest in the former Deportivo Maldonado, Gremio, Santos, Real Madrid and Las Palmas striker.

Had Everton landed Jose, finding the back of the net might not have been as daunting as it is for them at the moment, and a quality goalscorer like him must be brought in once the window re-opens in order to prevent a disastrous campaign.
