Rodgers reveals the huge risk Celtic won’t be tempted to take against Rangers

Celtic have a chance to prove their title credentials all over again should they leave Ibrox on Saturday with all 3 points.

Rangers strengthened massively over the summer transfer window, and the Old Firm derby represents the Hoops’ stiffest domestic challenge to date this term.

Manager Brendan Rodgers side handed the Gers a 5-1 humbling the last time they visited Ibrox, and would be keen to inflict such level of damage on their bitter rivals’ ego again.

However, the club won’t take unnecessary risks to do so. Striker Moussa Dembele returned to action in style after 2 months out, registering his name on the score sheet during weekend’s 4-0 win over Ross County.

The French youngster can best be described as Rangers’ nemesis having found the back of the net against them on 5 occasions last term.

Rodgers should relish unleashing Dembele on the Gers, but is rather careful in order not to hamper his striker’s return to full fitness.

The Old Firm derby is bound to be feisty, and the former Fulham man will definitely be a target by defenders.

The manager however isn’t willing to risk his fitness, and has told the press that: “We’ll see what Moussa’s reaction is from Saturday.

“We don’t need his hamstring going again. We don’t need to force him as we have a really good squad of players.

“We brought in a third striker in Odsonne Edouard because Leigh Griffiths and Moussa have had injury history. We don’t want to push them.”
