Pundit delivers crushing verdict regarding Newcastle’s brilliant run

Newcastle United and their fans are in dreamland right now. Despite losing their first 2 games, the Magpies currently sit in 4th position on the Premier League log, having won all their last 3 matches.

The Saint James’ Park outfit have a chance to further establish themselves in the top half of the table, with Liverpool and Manchester United the only traditional top 6 teams they have to face in their next 9 games until December.

However, BBC pundit Garth Crooks believes Newcastle’s heroic run will soon come to an end, because they are bound to run out of steam sooner or later.

The former Tottenham wrote in his Team of the Week column: “This is heroic stuff from this Newcastle squad but they will soon run out of gas.

“It is imperative Rafa Benitez is allowed to continue developing this team in January because this bubble will burst.”

The Spanish manager has been left to make do with a majority of his Championship-winning squad after the club refused to release much-needed funds during the summer transfer window.

Nevertheless, the squad looks capable of retaining their Premier League status at the end of the campaign in style.

A lack of depth is still an issue, though, and Benitez will hope he’s allowed to strengthen during the January transfer window.

Should he do so, Newcastle could finish comfortably in top 10 and even push for an Europa League spot considering their most recent performances.
