Everton are keen on young winger Federico Martinez, who plays for Uruguayan Primera Division side Liverpool F.C, but they have Arsenal and La Liga giants Atletico Madrid to battle for his signature, The Sun reports.
Martinez, 21, has been in great form since breaking into Liverpool F.C’s first team a year ago, and has already earned deserved comparisons with PSG’s Angel Di Maria due to his explosive style of play on the flanks.
The former West Ham target was rated £1million last summer, but could have since seen his worth double.
Everton have suffered a lack of depth as far as outstanding traditional wingers go, and Martinez fits the bill in that regards considering his huge talents and potential.
The Toffees have struggled to create goalscoring chances in the Premier League this season, with only 2 Wayne Rooney goals coming from the 27 they have managed to string together thus far.
The Merseysiders spent a fortune during the summer transfer window but are yet to feel the impact.
However, in an affordable, yet quality option like the Uruguayan wonderkid, things could take shape going forward as the club attempt to make themselves a regular top 6 finisher.
Landing Martinez’s signature won’t be coming easy, though, with many more European top sides likely to register interest in subsequent transfer windows.
