Rangers summer arrival and striker Alfredo Morelos has made a blistering start to his SPFL career, hitting 6 goals in as many league games thus far, and is being widely tipped to go all the way and score at least 20 goals by May.
The 21-year-old Colombian has eyes firmly set on a spot in his country’s squad for next summer’s World Cup, and is ready to score as many goals in order to attract the attentions of national team manager Jose Pekerman.
Gers captain Lee Wallace has revealed he has been in awe of Morelos’ form in front of goal, but claims he knew what the Colombian was capable of right during their first training session together.
Wallace told the press ahead of yesterday’s game against Patrick Thistle that the lethal finishing of the former Helsinki man was on display from the get go. “It was the first thing I noticed,” he said.
“We were doing a small two-v-one transition drill in his first training session so there was a lot of quickfire shots at different angles and speeds. Every single shot was (in the) back of the net – corners, top corners.
“He is scoring goals now and he is learning the language, two or three lessons a week to get his English up to speed.
“In terms of the football language, he is learning every day with the manager. We can see the hard work he is putting in on the training ground and he is getting his rewards with his goals so it is great for the team,”
Morelos caught the eyes during his time at Finland, scoring 46 goals in 62 games for HJK Helsinki.
Former Rangers striker and new assistant to Caixinha, Jonatan Johansson, convinced the club to bring the Colombian to Ibrox having taken note of his goalscoring prowess first-hand while managing Finland national team.
Morelos has unarguably been the best summer arrival in the land thus far, and looks bound to help fire Rangers to at least a 2nd place finish.
He opened the scoring during the 2-2 draw against Partick Thistle on Friday night, and all eye will be on him when Rangers host Celtic in their next league clash.
