Sam Allardyce explains what has surprised him about West Ham star Ayew

Andrew Ayew

Former West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has revealed that he thinks that Andre Ayew is a good player, however at the same time he added that he is surprised by the players lack of impact for the East London club.

After losing their opening three games of the season, the Hammers were in poor form and in desperate need of points.

Ayew churned out a top performance during the Hammers 2-0 victory over Huddersfield on Monday as he provided an assist to Pedro Obiang, who opened the scoring, and then went on to score himself.

After coming off the bench after 64 minutes, it was the Ghana international Ayew who helped secure victory for his side.

While talking about Ayew, Allardyce said, “I think he’s a very good player. I’m surprised he’s not had a bigger impact for West Ham, and I was surprised to see him on the bench today, but he’s clinched the three points for West Ham, and Slav’s got a good birthday present.”

On the basis of the cameo, Ayew surely deserves a start when the Hammers take on West Brom this weekend.
