Match Preview

Club America has been one of the better teams in the Liga MX this Apertura 2017, currently in second place with 13 points. The latest result for Las Aguilas was a disastrous 2-0 loss against Monarcas Morelia that really showcased the biggest problem that may impede Club America from a title run this season. That problem is a consistent goalscoring threat, the Mexico City team had 16 shots with six on goal but came home with a shutout to show for it. Silvio Romero missed countless opportunities throughout the game and Alejandro Diaz also proved to be no threat in front of goal.

Cecilio Dominguez’s performances have been lacking lately and Miguel Herrera will play youngster Diego Lainez over the Paraguayan midfielder in this game. Club America does have the much stronger side but will be facing an effective Veracruz side that is well managed under the care of former Club America great Juan Antonio Luna.

Veracruz has had a decent start to this Apertura 2017, currently in eighth place with 10 points after seven rounds of matches. The latest result for Los Tiburones was a solid 1-0 win against Pumas UNAM at home and now have only lost once in their last five games. The core for Juan Antonio Luna is an experienced one with a very potent attack featuring players like Adrian Luna, Daniel Villalva and Cristian Menendez.

The defense can be a challenging task to break down because of the heavy physical style that “El Cabezon” Luna incorporates. The game should be very intense and hard-fought, Club America is the slight favorite to take the three points from the game but the game should be a lot more contested than anticipated.
