Fabio Borini has revealed that he opted to leave Sunderland and join AC Milan this summer because he still has ambitions with regards to playing for Italy.
Following the Black Cats relegation from the Premier League last season, it was reported that two clubs from the Premier League as well as Scottish Champions Celtic were interested in signing Borini.
However he has since revealed that he found a return to his homeland with Milan most appealing as it would give him a shot of a call-up to the Azurri. So far Borini has performed decently for Milan.
He has played in five out of six games that his club have played and scored his first goal for the club during their 6-0 thumping of Shkendjia in a Europa League qualification match.
The 26-year-old Borini said, “I felt I needed to go back to Serie A, also for my international chances. It’s much more complicated when you play abroad.
“Pressure? I handle it easily, doing the things I usually do. I don’t read newspapers and live a normal life. When I get home, I’m able to unplug myself completely.”
