Former Liverpool and Newcastle star John Barnes believes that Tottenham will not win the Premier League this season.
Spurs narrowly missed out on winning the Premier League title for the past two seasons. They were Chelsea’s closest rivals last season. In 2015-16, they were also the greatest threat to eventual Champions Leicester before a late season slump resulted in them finishing in third place.
The North London club started the season on a disappointing note and occupy ninth position on the League standings with four points from three matches.
Former England international Barnes believes that the Manchester clubs will battle it out with Chelsea for the Premier League title this season.
Considering that the Lillywhites have so far looked less than convincing at their home ground for this season, Wembley Stadium, the club will need to make an immediate improvement or Barnes will be proven to be right.
He said, “They did very well last year, I didn’t think they would improve. There is no question of them winning the title because once again playing at Wembley is going to be detrimental for them in terms of winning all of their home games as we have seen already.
“I don’t think they will win the title, but I think they have got good players. I don’t think they necessarily needed to sign.
“They have got a good squad, they have got a strong squad, but once again for me, Manchester City and Manchester United are the favourites alongside probably Chelsea, although Tottenham will once again fight for a top-four spot, but I don’t think they will win the title.”
