Everton send youth World Cup winner on season-long loan to Championship club

While Everton secured a transfer deadline day arrival for attacking midfielder Nikola Vlasic from Hajduk Split, Academy product and versatile defender Callum Connolly completed a season-long loan switch to Championship club Ipswich Town.

The 19-year-old full-back spent the second half of last term on loan with Wigan Athletic, playing 17 matches and scoring twice.

Connolly, a defender capable of playing at both left and right-back made his Toffees debut as a substitute in a 1-1 home draw against Southampton last April.

The promising youngster has thus far played every of Everton Under-23s’ Premier League 2 matches this term, but will now spend the remaining of 2017-18 at Portman Road.

Manager Mick McCarthy’s side have started the season in an impressive manner, winning four of their five league games and currently lying second on the Championship table, three points behind early pacesetters Cardiff City.

Connolly, a key member of the England Under-20 World Cup winning squad, featuring in the opening match against Argentina and the second against Guinea, will now attempt to impress manager Ronald Koeman who would be keeping tabs on his progress.
