According to Oddschecker, Everton have a chance to sign RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner before transfer deadline, with the odds of the 21-year-old joining the Merseysiders slashed from 8/1 to 4/1.
The likes of Chelsea’s Diego Costa, Celtic’s Moussa Dembele, Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke and Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud are also still linked with 1/2 and 6/1’s odds respectively.
Werner came to limelight following 21 Bundesliga goals last term as Leipzig emerged surprise league runners-up, and it’s highly unlikely that the club would be keen on letting him go late in the summer.
Everton are yet to sign the much talked about “one more striker” with less than 24 hours to the end of the transfer window, and it remains to be seen if any would eventually arrive.
Romelu Lukaku’s shoes are seemingly too big for any of the summer striking targets to wear, but Werner, who helped lead Germany to victory at the Confederations Cup where he emerged highest goal scorer, could be a perfect fit.
His movement and finishing instincts stand him out of the lot, but landing him isn’t feasible this summer, not by a long shot.
Toffees’ boss Ronald Koeman might have to do with the current crop of striking options available to him until at least January.
Perhaps, the club could pull something up their sleeves and make a very late move for a quality striker out of thin air?
