As per Vital Football, Leeds striker Caleb Ekuban is set for some spell on the injury sidelines, as he undergoes a surgical procedure for the foot injury he picked up during the 2-nil victory over Sunderland about a fortnight ago.
The Italian-born Ghanaian international was making his first Championship start for the club since arriving earlier on in the summer, but could now spend the next couple of weeks without action, as he hopes to recuperate early after going under the knife.
With Chris Wood gone, the 23-year-old looked bound to immediately step into the Kiwi’s shoes, and the Ghanaian’s goal in his club debut against Port Vale in the 4-1 Carabao Cup win put him in a favorable position to lay claim to the berth.
However, Leeds will now have to make do without the former Chievo forward, who signed a 4-year deal upon arriving Elland Road from Albanian Superliga side Partizani Tirana where he scored 17 goals in 34 league games last season.
Manager Thomas Christiansen has already brought in Jay Roy Grot from Nijmegen, while it’s believed a deal for Hamburg’s Pierre-Michel Lasogga has all but been wrapped up.
Leeds are undefeated in their opening five games of the new league campaign, with 3 victories and 2 draws putting them in 3rd position on the log heading into the international break.
While Ekuban’s goals and contributions will be missed, the Whites will fare just well prior to his return, and it would be hoped he hits the ground running once he attains full fitness.
