As per the Daily Mail, Everton have expressed interest in Porto defender Ivan Marcano, with a view to making a late swoop for the Spaniard with just some hours to go before the summer transfer window closes.
Toffees’ boss Ronald Koeman wants a left-footed centre-back as Ramiro Funes Mori is ruled out with a long-term injury, and Marcano seems top of his list going into the final hours of the market.
The former Spain under-21 is Porto’s captain at the moment, so, it would take a significant fee to prise him away at such a time of the window as this.
Marcano, 30, can also play as a left-back, and has been a key member of Porto’s first team since arriving last summer.
Last season, the former Villarreal defender featured in all but 3 of the club’s fixtures across all competitions.
This term, Marcano has already played every minute of Porto’s opening 4 league fixtures, assisting and scoring one apiece.
With over a decade experience, his strength, aerial prowess and excellent range of passing, Marcano could be both a solid competition and cover for Everton backline if the Merseysiders somehow manage to seal what appears to be a very difficult transfer.
