Redknapp states 22-year-old could prove to be crucial in Newcastle’s relegation battle

Jamie Redknapp has revealed that he believes that Aleksandar Mitrovic could be key to Newcastle’s survival hopes this season.

The Serbian international Mitrovic came on as a substitute for his side during their 3-0 victory over West Ham on Saturday and replaced Joselu. Following Ciaran Clarke’s goal which doubled the advantage for the Magpies, he went on to score the third.

Redknapp has now stated his belief that Mitrovic could play a key role in terms of helping the club avoid relegation this season by saying, “How do you solve a problem like AleksandarMitrovic?

“He is far too good to not be in Newcastle’s team but for every moment of brilliance — such as his goal against West Ham — there is danger that he will get sent off.

“Mitrovic is a battering ram and a brave forward who will score goals. But his stupidity often outweighs his undoubted quality. There are some players who never learn but if Mitrovic gets his head right, he can be the key to Newcastle staying in the Premier League.”

Following the Magpies slow start to the season and failure to sufficiently bolster their squad this summer, many feel that they could face a battle to avoid relegation but they would certainly have done their confidence good by winning this weekend.
