Everton boss hails midfielder for playing under difficult circumstances

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has praised midfielder Muhamed Besic for playing for his club on Sunday despite hearing that his father had been shot just 24 hours prior to kick-off for his team’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea this weekend.

Besic’s father was reportedly shot in the hand and leg in Bosnia on Saturday afternoon and is said to have been taken to hospital to receive treatment.

The midfielder however still took his place on the Toffees bench and went on to replace Tom Davies at half time during the game at Stamford Bridge. The decision of Besic to be part of the squad would certainly have impressed his manager and fans.

Whilst talking about Besic’s inclusion in the squad, Koeman said, “It’s always the decision of the player, a family question. He showed commitment.

“He spoke to his family about what happened yesterday. Maybe he will now get off to be with his family for the next couple of days.”
